14 / 03 / 2008 - Anti-Lisbon Campaigners reject claim by Irish Minister for European Affairs that rights of the unborn will still be safe under Lisbon Treaty
In a letter to the Irish Independent newspaper, Dick Roche TD has claimed that the rights of the unborn will still be safe if the Lisbon Treaty is ratified.

However, campaigners against the Treaty say Ireland has never faced such a deceitful attack on her freedom and values. They say the Treaty is simple a re-hash of the EU Constitution - and that constitution rejects God and the unborn child.

Article 48 of the Treaty will allow the Irish Constitution - which protects unborn children - to be overruled whenever the EU decides. Ireland will no longer have the right to decide on issues like abortion.

In February, the first in a series of meetings to organise the campaign against the Lisbon Treaty heard that the next few months will see posters, information leaflets and internet marketing tools used in a "strong and determined" campaign to protect Ireland's freedom, her faith, and her "unborn children". The meeting, organised by Cóir, was used to group volunteers into canvassing and leafletting teams immediately.

Guest Speaker Dr Seán Ó Domhnaill warned that the Lisbon Treaty gave legal effect to the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, which denied the right-to-life of unborn children and was being used by the EU Courts to undermine Christain values.
