06 / 12 / 2012 - Precious Life welcome major conference at Stormont - `Seminar on the Risks of Medicalising the Crime of Abortion`

Precious Life have welcomed the announcement of a major conference to be held in Belfast on Tuesday 11th December 2012 at 4.00pm.

The "Seminar on the Risks of Medicalising the Crime of Abortion" will be hosted by the All Party Pro-Life Group of the Northern Ireland Assembly - in the Long Gallery, Parliament Buildings, Stormont. Politicians, Health Professionals, and Church Leaders have been invited to attend.

Speakers at the Seminar will be drawn from various legal and health professions to represent a full range of expertise. Topics covered at the Seminar will include maternal health, particularly on the management of high risk pregnancies; fetal anomalies; and mental health in pregnancy.

Speakers include:
Dr John Monaghan, DCH, FRCPI, FRCOG - a Consultant Obstetrician/ Gynaecologist for over 30 years, and also a member of the Irish Medical Council;

Mrs Johanna Higgins LLB, of the Inn of Court of Northern Ireland, the Kings Inns, Dublin and the Inner Temple, London, Barrister - a criminal barrister with over 15 years experience as a senior public prosecutor;

Dr. Seán Ó Domhnaill, MB BCh BAO DPM MRCPsych Dip. CBT, Medicine & Psychiatry - a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist with special expertise in medical and legal aspects of psychiatry. He is Managing Director at Psychiatric Court Services Ltd in Dublin which provides independent psychiatric assessments for the Courts, especially legal cases where psychiatry review is of benefit.

This important Seminar will explain how providing essential medical treatment to save the life of a pregnant woman is fundamentally different from the crime of abortion.
