26 / 11 / 2012 - Pro-Life Youth Bootcamp - a great success!!!
The Pro-Life Training Bootcamp hosted by Queens University Pro-Life Society on Saturday 24th November was a great success.
The theme of the Bootcamp was “Advancing the Pro-Life Revolution” and covered many different aspects of the pro-life movement.
Director of Precious Life, Bernadette Smyth, gave an upbeat presentation to train, equip, and motivate young people for pro-life activism; how to communicate the pro-life issue clearly and persuasively, and be a strong voice for our unborn children.
Bernadette told the audience of students and other young people, that it is vital to grasp the clear distinction between abortion - intentionally killing an unborn child - and genuine life-saving medical treatment that may result in the unintentional death of an unborn child.
She explained that the assertion - ‘abortion should be legal to save the life of the mother’ - is based on a false premise that abortion is sometimes necessary to save the life of the mother. It is never necessary to kill the unborn child to save the life of its mother. It should, therefore, never be legal because it is never necessary.
Quoting from Johanna Higgins’ historic legal document, Bernadette also explained that the central, if not sole, purpose of the law against abortion in Northern Ireland is the protection of the unborn child.
She concluded the presentation by telling the young people “..the battle against abortion is the greatest human rights issue of our day... you must be a part of it ...let’s go out and advance the pro-life revolution!”
Fired up with enthusiasm the young people then went out onto the streets of Belfast Centre and set a Pro-life Information Table and Educational Display Board. They collected petition signatures for our STOP MARIE STOPES CAMPAIGN. Using the knowledge they had learned at the Bootcamp, the young people engaged with members of the public and talked to them about the humanity of the unborn child; the truth about what abortion does to an unborn child; the devastating physical and physiological impact of abortion on women; and why abortion is never necessary to save a mothers life.
