02 / 09 / 2011 - Precious Life `Pro-Life Training Boot Camp` an outstanding success

Precious Life held a very successful "Pro-Life Training Boot Camp” for youth in Belfast on Saturday 27th August.

The theme of the Boot Camp was “Advancing the pro-life revolution”

The Bootcamp, featuring talks with multimedia presentations and videos, taught our new and existing volunteers how to persuasively defend life, and how to effectively engage in dialogue with the ultimate goal of changing hearts and minds.

Director of Precious Life, Bernadette Smyth gave a presentation on our “Street Outreach”. The training topics she covered included:

- Preparation before going out onto the street;
- Know your facts;
- how to deal with the public;
- the questions most often asked and how to respond to them;
- conduct and behaviour on the street;
- legal rights when doing pro-life work on the streets.

Pro-life speaker Stephen Brown gave a very informative presentation on the skills that you need to make your case in defence of the pro-life position. His presentation - based on the book “The Case For Life Like You’ve Never Heard It Before” by Scott Klusendorf – showed how to effectively tear down any argument that seeks to justify murdering an unborn child.

Stephen explained that the crux of the abortion issue is the humanity of the unborn child. No argument used to justify abortion would be used to justify killing the same child after birth.

Using the simple acronym - S.L.E.D. - Stephen showed there are only 4 differences between a newborn baby and an unborn baby -

SIZE;
LEVEL OF DEVELOPMENT;
ENVIRONMENT;
DEGREE OF DEPENDENCY

- none of which are relevant in deciding whether someone has a right to life.

Humans beings before and after birth have the same value, and that isn't affected by their size, level of development, environment, or degree of dependency.

19 year old, Daniel McCabe, from Precious Life Youth shared why he was inspired to join Precious Life Youth. He told the other young people at the Bootcamp to make a special effort stand up for life. He said, “The future of the battle for the unborn rests upon the younger generation. If we don’t step out ...who will?” I know I won’t allow the cry of the little ones go unheard. I challenge all the you young people to take a stand with me. We will stand together, and put our youthful energy and enthusiasm in speaking up against abortion. We are the generation for life!"

At 2.00pm, we went out into Belfast city centre for some practical 'hands-on' training at our Street Outreach. The t-shirts that we had specially printed for the Bootcamp were a big hit with our young volunteers.

We had a great response from the public. Hundreds of people stopped to sign our petition, look at our display board, and ask for information. It was really encouraging for our new volunteers to get such an enthusiastic response.
