Precious Life welcomes ‘Call-In’ of Belfast City Hall Abortion Illumination Decision

  • Precious Life welcomes ‘Call-In’ of Belfast City Hall Abortion Illumination Decision

Precious Life welcomes the announcement that the DUP will be "calling in" Belfast City Council’s decision to illuminate Belfast City Hall in celebration of abortion.

A "call-in" is a procedural mechanism that allows a group of councillors to put a temporary stop on a council decision and force it to be reconsidered.

We are encouraged that elected representatives are using the call-in process to challenge this deeply controversial decision and to raise concerns about both the procedure followed and the impact of the decision on the wider community.

Precious Life has consistently made clear that Belfast City Hall is a civic landmark belonging to all the people of Belfast and should not be used to promote or celebrate abortion. We therefore sincerely hope that the DUP’s call-in is successful and that the decision to illuminate City Hall will ultimately be overturned.

Whatever the outcome of the call-in, Precious Life will continue to make our voice heard. We have planned a public demonstration outside Belfast City Hall on the day the illumination is currently scheduled to take place, 28th September, should the illumination proceed.

We thank the DUP councillors for taking this important step and will continue to stand with all those who are working to ensure that Belfast City Hall remains a symbol of unity for everyone in our city.

Belfast City Hall is not a billboard for abortion.
