Precious Life denounce call to extend legalisation of abortion pills to Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland’s leading pro-life group Precious Life have denounced the Labour Party and Northern Ireland’s Shadow Secretary Tony Lloyd’s call on Westminster to extend the legalisation of abortion pills to Northern Ireland. This is following the decision to allow women in England, similar to Scotland and Wales, to take the second abortion pill at home, despite the fact that the 1967 Abortion Act was never intended to allow abortions to take place at home but instead demands the presence of medical, nursing or clinical staff.

Precious Life believe that this recent policy in England is unlawful and effectively acts to remove the curren t medical oversight from this already deadly process, thereby further endangering the wellbeing of women. The proposed interference from Westminster towards Northern Ireland shows an utter contempt for our pro-life, life-saving laws and devolution as well as our democratic process. The abortion pills – Misoprostol and Mifepristone, also known as RU486 – are poisonous substances taken together to end the life of an unborn child up to nine weeks of pregnancy. However, the drugs are not only deadly for unborn babies but are also dangerous and can be life-threatening to the mother as well.

Complications from abortion drugs include excessive bleeding, infection, incomplete abortion requiring surgery, and death of the woman. A Food and Drug Administration report in 2017 found that 22 women died, more than 1,000 were hospitalised and nearly 600 experienced severe blood loss that required transfusions after taking the abortion drugs in the United States. Despite these statistics and the dangers of these pills Ann Furedi, Chief Executive of the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, said, “women will no longer risk pain and bleeding as they travel home after taking it” and that “we are delighted by this decision, which represents an outbreak of common sense.” Ann Furedi’s statements represent yet another example of pro-abortion lies and propaganda being spread. This is a desperate and disturbing disregard for women’s safety and for the lives of unborn children. It highlights the shocking reality that abortions are never safe – abortion kills babies and hurts and damages women at every stage of pregnancy.

Women with unintended pregnancies need real life-affirming healthcare, help and support like Stanton Healthcare. Abortion is never the answer. These abortion pills kill unborn babies and are incredibly dangerous and women deserve to be protected from these dangerous pills. Our laws matter because every life matters.
