Make a Donation Find us on Facebook Abortion ads on TV - Make a Complaint Precious Life has condemned the planned screening of advertisements for abortions on TV beginning 24th May.
The ads by Marie Stopes International - one of the largest abortion providers in the world - will be broadcast on Channel 4 at 10:10 pm, and will continue to be shown throughout May and June. While Precious Life welcome the fact that the ads will not be shown in Northern Ireland [see: Abortion TV ad firm hits out over Northern Ireland ‘blackout’] we are angry that the killing of unborn children will now be even more trivialised with ads for abortion popping up on our TV screens between game shows. Advertsing abortion on TV will only lead to more unborn babies being killed and to more women and suffering the harmful after-effects of abortion. The ads will mislead viewers by portraying Marie Stopes International as a organisation helping vulnerable women by providing an abortion 'service'. What they wont show is the horrific reality of unborn children killed by abortion, or the physical and emotional harm suffered by women after abortion Abortion is not a 'service' - it is a a dis-service to vulnerable women. Marie Stopes International is not interested in helping women in crisis pregnancies. They are only interested in selling abortion. Marie Stopes International has been implicated in illegal abortions overseas. In 2007 a 15-year-old girl died after having an abortion at the Marie Stopes clinic in Leeds [see: Marie Stopes International Criticised After Teen Dies From Legal Abortion] Marie Stopes International claim to be a non-profit organisation, but that fact that they are spending thousands of pounds on TV advertising proves they want to make even more money by drumming up demand for abortion. Their ads will add to the pressure on vulnerable women to opt for a 'quick fix solution' to a difficult pregnancy. Women with difficult pregnancies deserve better that abortion. They need help and support rather than be exploited by organisation that will offer to kill their unborn babies for money. Under the 1990 Broadcasting Act, advertising can not be offensive or harmful. But abortion is offensive to the countless women physically and emotionally damaged by abortion, and lethally harmful to the hundreds of unborn children aborted every day It must also be noted that abortion is still a criminal offence in English law (the 1967 Abortion Act only protects doctors from prosecution). Advertising of a criminal offence is not permitted. TAKE ACTION Contact Channel 4 to make a Complaint Telephone Channel 4 on 0845 076 0191 (Monday to Friday - 9am to 9pm / Saturday and Sunday - 10am to 7pm / Bank Holidays - 10am to 6pm) When making your complaint ,use the following points: • Abortion kills babies and hurts women • The 1990 Broadcasting Act says advertising can not be offensive or harmful. You find the killing of unborn children offensive. Abortion is lethally harmful to the hundreds of unborn children aborted every day. • While the 1967 Abortion Act protects doctors from prosecution, abortion is still a criminal offence and the advertising of a criminal offence is not permitted. • Advertising abortion will trivialise the killing of unborn children • The ads will be misleading because they wont show viewers the true reality of abortion or the harmful after-effects for women You can also sign the iPetition against the Abortion Advertisement on Channel 4 here |
