18 / 03 / 2011 - FPA use of St Patrick to promote abortion is `disgusting` - Precious Life
Precious Life have described as "disgusting" an attempt by the Family Planning Association (FPA) to use St Patrick's Day celebrations in USA to campaign for legalising abortion In Ireland.

The FPA organised the trip to USA to bring a delegation of pro-abortionists from Ireland to a meeting in Washington DC. Members of the delegation included Audrey Simpson, Director of the FPA; Northern Ireland Assembly Member Dawn Purvis; Liz McManus, former deputy leader of the Labour Party in the Republic of Ireland; and Niall Behan of the Irish Family Planning Association.

The meeting was attended by pro-abortion politicians, abortion groups and activists. It was hosted by pro-abortion Democrat Congresswoman Louise Slaughter. The FPA delegation called on those attending to influence the Irish Government and the Northern Ireland Executive to legalise abortion in Ireland.

Director of Precious Life Bernadette Smyth said," The FPA specifically stated they organised this trip to Washington to inflence Amercian politicians during 'St. Patrick’s Day celebrations'.

"I find it disgusting that the FPA would use the Patron Saint of Ireland - who brought Christianity to our country - to campaign for the killing of Ireland's unborn children. The story of St Patrick is that he converted the pagan Irish to Christianity by preaching the Gospel of Christ after he heard the children of Ireland crying out to him in a vision."

"Today, the unborn children of Ireland are now crying out for protection from the FPA and their abortionist cohorts."

She added, "The FPA continue to receive public funding. This is an outrage. We are calling for an investigation into whether the FPA used taxpayers money to bring a delegation to another country, to lobby for a change in our laws."

Bernadette Smyth concluded, "We take comfort from the fact that the FPA trip to the USA only goes to show they have failed utterly to garner any credible support in Ireland when they have to resort to trying to get American politicians to influence our politicians. Precious Life will continue working closely with our politicians in the All Party Pro-Life Group of the Northern Ireland Assembly to ensure our laws continue to protect unborn babies and their mother from abortion."
