05 / 08 / 2010 - Those who oppose bullfighting and support abortion use a double standard

Father Ruben Tejedor Monton, who is the vocations director of the Diocese of Osma-Soria in Spain, criticized left-wing lawmakers for their double standard in banning bullfighting in Catalonia, yet fully supporting the country's new abortion law.

“The double standard of politicians on the left who lead the charge to defend animals but at the same time ‘rock the cradle’ of the business of abortion clinics is pathetic,” the priest wrote in an article.

Fr. Monton noted that during the recent debate in the Catalonia legislature on prohibiting bullfights, left-wing lawmakers acted with a double standard: denying the humanity of the unborn child while arguing that bulls should be spared any suffering in the ring.

“The people who brag about defending animal life are the same ones who have become accomplices, by voting yes on the recent ‘law’ on abortion.” The priest remarked that the law will prevent “thousands of innocent and defenseless children from ever contemplating the beauty of this life.”

The priest also lamented the lack of assistance given to pregnant women in the country.
