A 32-year-old man has been remanded in custody accused of child sex offences and seeking to procure an abortion.

Christopher Paul Buckham, faces four counts of sexual activity with a child aged between 13 and 16.

He is further alleged to have supplied abortion drugs knowing they were to be unlawfully used for a miscarriage.

All of the alleged offences were committed in Belfast in 2009 and 2010.

Buckham, whose address cannot be disclosed to protect the alleged victim's identity, was arrested by detectives from the PSNI's specialist child abuse unit.

The accused, who is originally from England, spoke only to confirm he understood the charges during an appearance at Belfast Magistrates' Court.

A detective constable told the court he could connect the accused with the offences.

Buckham's lawyer declined to question the officer or to make an application for bail at this stage.

He said it could take a week to organise a potential address for his client.

Buckham was remanded in custody to appear again via video-link next month.
