30 / 04 / 2010 - Irish Newspaper abortion coverage: `imbalanced, unprofessional and a promotion of abortion`
The Life Institute has said that the Examiner newspaper's coverage of abortion is "imbalanced and unprofessional" and usually amounts to a promotion of abortion. Spokeswoman Niamh Uí Bhriain said that the Examiner was failing utterly in its professional duty because it was pursuing an agenda which seeks to attack Ireland’s pro-life laws.

“The Examiner’s editorial said that it wished to make a contribution to the abortion debate and that they wanted to ‘act as a conduit for all views, but do not advocate or endorse any’. But that is simply not true,” said Niamh Uí Bhriain. “They have repeatedly made voices heard which advocate abortion or which tell why they believe abortion was the ‘right choice’. But why are they not giving women hurt by abortion a voice? The evidence shows that the vast majority of women are hurt by abortion, but the Examiner doesn’t allow their stories to be heard because it doesn’t suite their agenda.”

Ms Uí Bhriain said that if the Examiner wanted to make a meaningful contribution to the debate they should at least provide balanced, fair coverage and allow all voices to be heard.
