12 / 03 / 2008 - Dying father“s joy of baby scan DVD
A clear 3D shot of Nick Ronchetti“s unborn girl
WALES - A father-to-be's colleagues have clubbed together to buy him a 3D scan of the baby he might not live to see.
Paramedic Nick Ronchetti has an inoperable brain tumour and he and wife Lucy fear he may not survive to see the birth of their first child in June.
But now the couple can watch a five-minute clip of their unborn daughter smiling and sucking her thumb, thanks to a £400 whip-round.
'It was so generous of Nick's colleagues. They have been brilliant. He's realised how many friends he has in the ambulance service,' said Lucy, 25.
The couple, from Whitchurch, Cardiff, were delighted when they discovered Mrs Ronchetti was pregnant.
But three weeks later, doctors found Nick, 39, had a tumour which has now left him partially paralysed.
To lift his spirits, co-workers pulled together to pay for Mrs Ronchetti's 20-week scan to be made 3D and put on DVD so the couple could watch it whenever they wanted.
'It is wonderful. We can see the baby smiling and opening her eyes. By watching the scan we found out we are having a baby girl. Nick is really thrilled about that,' added the mother-to-be.
Fellow paramedic Chris Joyce said: 'Nick's a good bloke. We were delighted to pay for the scan but everyone is hoping Nick sees his baby girl when she's born.'
