10 / 03 / 2008 - Unborn child 8th victim of crash
THE horror car crash caused by a convicted drink-driver claimed EIGHT lives, it emerged yesterday.
For reckless Jason Brain’s 15-year-old daughter Natasha was six weeks pregnant, shocked friends revealed.
Natasha died instantly along with her 32-year-old father and two friends when he caused a head-on smash.
Innocent John Kirby, 63, and his wife Margaret, 61, who were in the other car, were also killed. Their daughter Julie, 34, died soon after.
The couple’s two grandchildren — Adam, ten, and nine-year-old Sophie Stone — are still fighting for their lives.
Neighbours said Brain, a dad of four, had been seen buying alcopops and driving recklessly shortly before the accident on Friday night.
Natasha’s uncle Bill Clayton-Ives, 42, said: “He was asking to get killed every time he went on the road.
“It’s just a tragedy he had to take seven other people with him. In my opinion the world is well rid of him. He was a nasty piece of work.
“What he did is tantamount to murder and that’s how he should be remembered.” Natasha recently moved into a caravan with Brain after years of living with her mother.
CCTV images showed them leaving the site at Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucs, in his tatty Peugeot 306 12 hours before he hit the Kirbys’ VW Passat while overtaking on the A429 outside Stow-on-the-Wold.
Cops said the two vehicles would have collided at a combined speed of 120mph.
Also killed were Brain’s friend Michola Jones, 31, and cousin Ryan Bott, 20. Brain was banned from driving for five years in January 2001 after causing an identical accident, in which miraculously no one was badly hurt, on the same road while twice over the drink-drive limit.
He ran off afterwards and hid at his girlfriend’s home.
