06 / 03 / 2008 - !!! ACTION ALERT !!! - contact the Bill of Rights Forum
Contact the Bill of Rights Forum to let them know what you’d like to see included in the Bill of Rights.

The Bill of Rights Forum was set-up by the Northern Ireland Office in December 2006. It is tasked with making recommendations on the content of a Bill of Rights.

The Forum established 'working groups' to examine particular areas of Human Rights. The 'Women’s Working Group has published its final report and it will be considered by the Forum on 14 March 2008. Their report states that the best way to deal with abortion is "through the protection of physical autonomy ...the right to make decisions concerning reproduction; ...the right to security in and control over their body"

These recommendations will be submitted to the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and the Secretary of State by 31st March 2008. Following on from this, the next stage in delivering the Bill of Rights will likely be the legislative process through Westminster.

UPDATE 31 March 2008 - The final report of the Bill of Rights Forum was submitted to the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission on 31 March 2008 and has denied any rights to unborn children.

Contact the Human Rights Commission. Tell them that the proposed Bill of Rights must ensure the human rights of unborn children are fully and firmly protected in law, policy and practice. Click here
