18 / 09 / 2009 - Pope to doctors: Do not sell drugs that stop life

Pope Benedict XVI urged Catholic pharmacists to stop selling drugs that prevent pregnancy or assist in euthanasia.

At the World Congress of the International Alliance of Catholic pharmacists in Poland, Pope Benedict XVI encouraged all the pharmacists not to deviate from their own consciences in the name of the market laws and reminded them that they must respect Church’s moral laws instead. He was referring to a medication that can terminate or prevent pregnancy and help with the execution of euthanasia.

One needs to adhere to teachings of the Church

According to Vecernji List, the Pope was really clear in condemning birth control pills, abortion practices, and drugs that help euthanasia. He believes that the Church's teaching, concerning respect for life and dignity of man, should be followed by the pharmacists.

Thus, the Pope has shown that the Church does not cease to condemn contraceptives, despite many public protests and modern views on life.

Congress of Pharmacists was held under the name “Safety of drugs: ethics and conscience for pharmacists”.
