22 / 02 / 2008 - Anti-Lisbon Campaign begins in earnest

Dublin - The first in a series of meetings to organise the campaign against the Lisbon Treaty has heard that the next few months will see posters, information leaflets and internet marketing tools used in a "strong and determined" campaign to protect Ireland's freedom, her faith, and her "unborn children". The meeting, organised by Cóir, was used to group volunteers into canvassing and leafletting teams immediately.

Dr Anthony Coughlan, an independent commentator with the National Platform, and a guest speaker at the meeting, told attendees that the Lisbon Treaty was, in fact, the re-named EU Constitution, and that, by denying all other countries a referendum, the EU elite worsened the democratic deficit orchestrated by Brussels.

Another guest speaker, Dr Seán Ó Domhnaill took the meeting through the many anti-life and anti-family measures undertaken by the EU since 2000 and warned that the Lisbon Treaty gave legal effect to the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, which denied the right-to-life of unborn children and was being used by the EU Courts to undermine Christain values. He said that Fr John Brady was 'entirely correct' when he pointed out that the Treaty gave effect to a Constitution that neither recognised God nor the unborn child.

The first three in a series of leaflets were available at the meeting and some million leaflets are expected to be printed in the next month. Tomás Ó Caomhánaigh of Cóir said that anyone wishing to get involved should call 01 8746858 for further information. He also asked for volunteers for an Anti-Lisbon Roadshow which would take place in May.
