18 / 11 / 2011 - Ireland Poll Shows Strong Pro-Life Views on Abortion
More than two-thirds of Irish people want to see the right to life of the unborn child protected in law, according to a new poll commissioned by the Pro Life Campaign. The poll was conducted by Millward Brown Lansdowne using a national random sample of 984 adults.
Respondents were asked: “Are you in favor or opposed to constitutional protection for the unborn that prohibits abortion but allows the continuation of the existing practice of intervention to save a mother’s life, in accordance with Irish medical ethics?”
The results found 61 percent favored constitutional protection for the unborn child, with 17 percent opposed. Twenty two percent had no opinion or didn’t know where they stood on the issue of abortion. When this 22 percent is excluded, 78 percent of people favor legal protection for the unborn, while 22 percent are opposed.
Director of Precious Life, Bernadette Smyth welcomed the results of the, "This shows once again that vast majority of Irish people want the right to life of our unborn children protected. Precious Life will continue in our campaigns to keep abortion not only illegal but unthinkable!"
