02 / 05 / 2011 - Northern Ireland`s main Political Parties discuss abortion on BBC

BBC Radio Ulster’s religious programme - SUNDAY SEQUENCE - featured a discussion with representatives of Northern Ireland’s main political parties about religious and ethical issues, including abortion.

On the panel was Jeffrey Donaldon (DUP); Alex Maskey (Sinn Fein); Dolores Kelly (SDLP); Bill Manwaring (Ulster Unionist Party); and Naomi Long (Alliance Party).

Click on the BBC iPlayer to listen to the debate. It begins 5 minutes and 30 seconds into the programme. The issue of abortion is discussed at 11 minutes and 58 seconds into the programme.

NOTE: The BBC iPlayer cannot be accessed outside the UK

During the debate Alex Maskey claims Sinn Fein is opposed to abortion but he is annoyed that, during every election, some people misrepresent his party’s position.

Precious Life has contacted Sinn Fein (and all the other parties) during thi...s, and every, election - asking will they protect the right to life of unborn children. Sinn Fein has never once stated that they will protect the right to life of unborn children.

The presenter of ‘Sunday Sequence’ also actually asks Alex Maskey what is the basis for his party’s opposition to abortion but Alex Maskey fails to answer the question.

Precious Life and every other pro-lifer is opposed to abortion because every abortion kills an unborn baby. If Sinn Fein has another reason for opposing abortion, then they should let their voters know what it is.
